People say that the man is a devil and his glinting cottage a den for dangerous beasts. But it doesn’t take long for 8-year-old Sheila to start thinking of the shaman as ‘My friend Sadhu Shiva.’
My Friend Sadhu Shiva
‘Years ago,’ writes Dheera, ‘when I was young, my father, an army man, was posted to a remote town in Central India. Those were the days before television and computers and fancy cars, almost before the world, as you know it, began. Most of the things that you are about to read in this story really happened…..a long, long time ago.’
MY FRIEND SADHU SHIVA, is Dheera’s first book of fiction. It was inspired by her growing years in a military cantonment, surrounded by horses and wildlife. Jasbinder Singh, lent luster to her words with his wonderful line drawings. The book was included as a supplementary reader for grade IV students at a school in Powai, Mumbai.
